Squeenix breaks the DS mould

Ah, here's a nice little rumor gleaned from Gamer TV this week. Turns out that our friends at Squeenix are working on an online game for the DS.

Yes, that's right, O-N-L-I-N-E. I was quite surprised when I heard this, so let's start the new year with a good rumor mill. My predictions:

1) It will use an AP as a server to gain internet access
2) It will be the first DS game to use an IP stack and vaguely support WiFi
3) There's a decent chance it will be a Final Fantasy title

I have to say, I can't wait, whatever it may be. Nintendo is going out and out to trounce Sony at the moment. And rightly so; the PSP is a stunning machine with awful battery life, and the DS is a next gen winner of portability.

Granted it would be technically easier and politically nicer for Squeenix to follow Sony, but at the moment, they seem to be shuffling back to their first-wife (Nintendo), kissing and making up. Thing is, am I the only person to see the storm clouds forming?
